Francis Camilleri

Mouth Artist | Malta

Francis Camilleri, born on 31 January 1962 in Malta, has been a quadriplegic since a diving accident in 1978 and is therefore confined to a wheelchair. After intensive medical treatment and occupational therapy in England and Germany, he managed to adapt himself to his completely new and difficult life. He was able to continue and complete his school education. In 1993, representatives of the publishing house, Izda Art Publishers encouraged him to start painting with his mouth and, in doing so, to earn his own living. He learned how to paint with his mouth and made great progress in a relatively short time. In 1991, he was granted a scholarship from the association.

In 2000 he received Associate Membership status, which gave him the opportunity to participate in numerous international exhibitions. In addition, he organized several one-man shows. Today, Francis Camilleri masters various techniques of mouth painting. Aside from oil painting, the transparency of watercolour, which he uses for most of his pictures, is his love. He mainly paints landscapes, urban panoramas and folkloric scenes in addition to scenes following Christian tradition and finely drawn flowers.
