David Nolt

Mouth Artist | Usa

David Nolt was born on 8 November 1980 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, with Arthrogryposis multiplex congenita, a birth defect that left him without the use of his arms. David began painting as a child, using oil to duplicate images of his surroundings. He learned of the MFPA through current member Jack Reich, who mentored David to his acceptance. But he mostly learned to paint with his mouth as an autodidact. In 2001 he became a Student Member of the association and in 2010 he was granted Associate Membership of VDMFK. His initial works mainly comprised of sketches done with a fountain pen and ink.

Later, he began to experiment with watercolour. When looking at his paintings one sees motifs done in various styles. His works predominantly represent typical American landscapes. Furthermore, he is a photographer and he uses his photos as a source for his paintings. Today, David works from a studio in Leola, Pennsylvania. When he is not painting, Nolt enjoys working with his telescope, which he manoeuvres with a mouth stick.”I am always inspired by the life around me, so I wanted to learn how to translate that to something that could be shared”, Nolt says.
