In June 1988 Mariusz was involved in a grave car accident where he fractured his C4/C5 cervical vertebra, resulting in paralysis of his extremities. He has been confined to the wheelchair ever since. After five years, he started to paint with his mouth and enjoyed it right from the start and made significant artistic progress in quick time. Mariusz mainly paints in oils. His favourite subjects are still lifes, landscapes, flowers and animals. With regard to the latter, he particularly enjoys painting themes which feature horses.
