Brom Wikstrom

Brom Wikstrom was born on 13 October 1953 in Seattle. He started his professional journey as an apprentice in his father’s commercial art business. In 1975, an unfortunate swimming accident left him paralyzed and then began his unique journey of painting with his mouth. For several years he took painting lessons with his father and in 1985 he received a scholarship from the AMFPA. Since 1992, he has been a Full Member of the MFPA Association. In the course of the years, he took college classes in art therapy and he established an arts program at the Children’s Hospital in Seattle. He furthermore demonstrates his painting style in regional schools and at local arts festivals.

Most of Brom’s works are in watercolour, characterized by a beautiful clarity combined with firm graphic construction and transparent colours. He also does mural paintings.
Brom Wikstrom is a greatly appreciated artist he has received several prizes and distinctions for his works. He presented his paintings to the Empress and the Emperor of Japan and received the famous “Torchlight Award” at a ceremony in Taipei/Taiwan. Kerrin Tilley
Kerrin Tilley was born on 19 May 1967 in Opotiki. In 1988 while attending a rugby match he was seriously injured in a crush and this resulted in him being tetraplegic In the unit for spinal injuries at the Otara hospital in Auckland he met the mouth painters and VDMFK artists Grant Sharman, Irene Bernie, Tommy Waru and Alex Craig as well as the wonderful art tutor Doreen Jones. All these people motivated him to become involved in mouth painting and since then became his memorable journey as a mouth artist. Kerrin Tilley’s favourite subjects are landscapes and animals.

Many of his works have repeatedly been shown at exhibitions and have won great praise. Eventually he became an associate member of the association in 2001. Kerrin Tilley’s hobbies include watching all kinds of sports as well as saltwater fishing with the help of an electric fishing rod.

Mariusz maczka

Mariusz Maczka was born on 21 April 1973 in Dobiegniew. In June 1988, an unfortunate car accident left his vertebra severely fractured resulting in paralysis of his extremities. He has been confined to the wheelchair ever since. Five years after his accident, he started to paint with his mouth and thus began his journey as a artist. He enjoyed it very much right from the start and was soon able to make significant artistic progress. He was admitted to the MFPA Association as a Student Member in 2000.

He became an Associate Member of MFPA from 2007 onwards and was admitted as a full Member in 2011. Mariusz Maczka mainly paints in oil. His favourite subjects are still life, landscapes, flowers and animals. With regard to the latter, he particularly enjoys painting themes that feature horses. The artist has already shown his mouth painted works to the public at innumerable exhibitions.

Mariam Pare

Mariam Paré was born on 1 December 1975 in Morocco. She was critically injured in a shoot-out and became paralysed from the chest down (Tetraplegia C5). Before the accident, she was studying the history of art and had a vocation for art. In occupational therapy, she was introduced to mouth painting. Nine years have gone by since then and the artist is still intent on making progress. Mariam has taken part in a number of exhibitions. She also designs her own cards, gives interviews and continues to paint and create art.

Mariam works on interesting themes through various techniques, mostly traditional oil painting and modern mixed media techniques. Mariam’s been a part of MFPA since 2006. As Mariam’s involvement in the art and disability community grew, she began to share her messages of perseverance with audiences all over the world through TV appearances, news segments and in print publications.

Walery seijtbatlow

Dr Walery Siejtbatalow was born on 8 June 1965 in Denisovka. He suffered a cervical spinal injury after jumping from a hill into a river and has been confined to a wheelchair since then. To escape from his loss of mobility, he began writing with a pen in his mouth. Later he came across the idea of mouth painting. Since 2012, the VDMFK gave him a scholarship. A colourfully illustrated bible for children inspired him to portray the motifs of Christ and other biblical scenes.

In the following years, his techniques grew to encompass painting stained glass windows and portraits of his friends. Later on, he began using oil paints. His first painting using this technique was an icon, and further award-winning icons soon followed. Mr Siejtbatalow has held numerous exhibitions which have been held in high regard by the public. He became an associate member in 2018.
