Maria and her husband were driving down a back road during a windstorm in 2000, when a tree fell onto the roof of their minivan and changed their lives drastically. Both broke their necks as a result of this accident however Maria’s husband’s neck was fused, and he still had full movement. Maria’s injury was much more serious, as she was rendered a C5/6 quadriplegic and spent many months in rehab. With much determination, she began painting with a brush held in her mouth. Her mother, who is an artist herself, gave her some paint by numbers as gifts. To Maria’s surprise, she discovered a great passion for art. Each day she strives harder to improve her artistic abilities and each day she falls more in love with nature and art she creates.
